But as a global society and a human civilization we are on the all time low. On the one hand, we are making mice transparent, sending geckos in space to study their mating behaviors, but on the other hand we are killing each other over who has a better imaginary friend.
In one of the interviews, It was asked to Neil deGresse Tyson, that if Carl Sagan was alive today, what would bother him most? This was his reply-
"What would bother him most is that we still have to argue that science is something very important in our society."
This would not only bother Sagan, but all the other scientists if they see our current world. If Galileo and Copernicus come into our world today, they would not be happy to see that you can publish your theories based in observations without being killed by church, But they would also be sad to see that even after so many centuries, people oppose and discard your theories just because they don't agree with their religion.
This, again, is the problem of our education systems. Education should provoke students to think. They should promote intellectualism. But they just focus on giving students knowledge. Rather than telling students that Earth revolves around Sun, it is far better to make them think and help them in concluding the reality on their own. We cannot and should not force them to believe it, even though it's true.
It is said that all children are born scientists, the problem is that we don't let them be one as they grow up. All children have a natural quality of a scientist to question everything. But as they grow up, rather than appreciating this quality, we kill it. We train children so they don't grow up as adults who question everything. This is profitable to everybody. It's good for parents because they don't always have the answers of the questions children ask, and even if they do, they don't know how to explain it to them or etc. It is always better for them if their children ask less questions. It is profitable to religion because it's anyway not about "questioning". It is also profitable for governments and politicians because they never want to be "answerable" to anybody. But as a human civilization it is just dangerous to all of us. This is why we make them "believe" that Earth revolves around Sun and lots of other things including some nonsense.
But, just telling them that Earth revolves around Sun and make them believe it, makes them believe whatever we tell them without analyzing it. People who believe whatever we tell them are the biggest threat to the society. In countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan these type of people are brainwashed by terrorists to make them one. This is the real root of terrorism. Terrorism in these countries is the result of failure of education systems of them. In countries like US, these people are brainwashed by Christians to oppose scientific facts like evolution, climate change, etc.
In this way, the failure of education systems is responsible for some major problems in the world. We need to reform them.
"I don't want to believe, I want to know"
