It has long been feared that robots and computers will one day take over earth defeating the human race which created them, artificial intelligence will take over the natural one. This, being one of the popular apocalyptic theories has some real side unlike others.
The battle between humans and robots will probably not be fought with machine guns like in the terminator and we won't be able to explode the skynets brain. I'm not saying that the reason behind extinction of human race will be robots it definitely won't be, we are smart enough, I have faith on humanity.
The battle between robots and humans have already began, we are not realising it.
The work that people used to do in earlier century is now being done by robots and computers resulting in unemployment of people who used to do that work. We won't look at this as a battle between humans and computers because this is supposed to result in improvement in quality of living. humans are now not required to do dangerous or tedious tasks. People who would've replaced workers in the case where computers are not used, now in the present case can do jobs which are more worth doing, which enable them to earn more and thus their quality of living will be better than their predecessors, this is the ideal case we all want to see.
Yes, there is a 'but'. These so called ideal jobs jobs are not created at the rate at which the older jobs are taken over by computers. Secondly, the people who are supposed to do these ideal jobs haven't learnt any extra skills or got any extra education than their predecessors and thus, are not qualified for these new jobs. Thus we have reached a point where job vacancies and unemployment coexist.
In any society, there are two groups, group A- who have new ideas, who wants to change the world and make an impact on humanity. These people can't change the world on their own, they need other people to implement their ideas and turn them into reality.we'll call group of these people as group B. The percentage of the people in group A is miniscule and increasing and that in B is decreasing. The problem is that these rates aren't exactly the way they are supposed to be. The ideal case is where dA/dt = k.dB/dt but reality is dA/dt < k.dB/dt. The no. of people needed , I.e. No.of people in group B has decreased drastically but no.of people in group A hasn't increased that much. The blame for both these fluctuations goes to computers and technology.
And due to these fluctuations the no. of people fitting in neither of the groups is increasing, resulting in unemployment. Now these people don't just sit around watching tv, they start following NaMo or Raj Thackeray,
taking parts in not only road shows but riots as well in countries like in India. And in countries like Ukraine they start uprisings against their governments. I'm not saying that condition of Ukraine is due to unemployment but what person who has a satisfying job and a loving family goes to capture local police station to put a Russian flag there? It doesn't matter to him which country he is living in. So computers and robots are indirectly the reason for conflicts. These conflicts won't result in extinction of humanity but will definitely be a reason for loss of it. Just imagine what would happen if the Ukraine situation results in a world war. But it won't, because again, we are smart enough.
Yes, I am blaming our technological advancements for our worlds poor conditions. But I would also have to give credit of our improved quality of life to them. I also believe that what happens, happens for good and that people get what they deserve. Maybe those people deserve being unemployed and being replaced by computers. Maybe we don't deserve to live on earth in numbers we are living in. Population has to somehow control itself and maybe this is the way nature is choosing to save itself, to save humanity. Maybe we have to sacrifice lives of many to ultimately survive as a race.Maybe we deserve living in a unsafe, chaotic world.
