India and human rights

India is a democratic country. Worlds biggest democracy! Freedom is a basic human right given to it's every citizen. But, how is the state doing in protecting rights of it's citizens? Not good.

Currently, I am suffering from a human rights violation. I have the right to live in a peaceful environment and breath fresh air. This right is violated just because it's some idiot's wedding, and his family likes to play loud music, louder than normal volumes humans can take and they also like to burn firecrackers which not only make sound pollution but also air pollution which can cause severe effects on human well being. This can potentially cause me permanent hearing damage, disturbe my psychological health or make me a victim of number of respiratory diseases. It can cause even more severe effects on my mother who is a hypertension patient or probably even threaten her life. And you know what the worst part is? We have become immune to all this. So what is normally insane has become normal to us. If you ask, most of the people here will tell you that they don't feel harassed by this or they don't feel as if it is infringement of their rights. Such type of behavior being classified as normal is a clear sign of degradation of society and quality of human life being degraded as well.
So why don't I just make a police complaint about it? The police would classify this as normal behavior as well. There are no laws on burning firecrackers according to my knowledge. You don't have to take any type of permission from anyone. Even if there are plaws there is a very little probability that they will be known to ppp ppublic and will be implemented. There are however, laws about limiting sound levels. But police will take a lot of time to arrive. They would not bring a decibelometer with them and would not arrest anyone. They would just take money from the opposite party and you would have to quit because you have no evidence to prove that their sound levels were above than normal and you also don't want to waste a lot of time and money in your life. And even if you have enough patience and money to file a case it would take years to solve this matter and the punishment to them would probably be a fine of  some amount of money. Why fight when you can adjust and become immune to this.
Now this is a very small example of the human rights violations and law violations in India against which no action is taken because our law system is busy punishing not only criminals of more serious crimes such as murder, kidnapping, rape, etc.(which also are a severe human rights violations that takes years for the criminals to be punished) But also innocent facebookers, who posted their opinions online which hurt some other people's feelings( actually opinions). So why increase the workload on our system?
Yes, another important human rights violation in India is about freedom of speech. I would love to write more about it but I don't want stones to be pelted at my house or go to jail for expressing my opinions which differ from others. But I will not hesitate to say that this is a sign that India's democracy might be threatened in the near future.
India seems to be not very much better than China when it comes to freedom of speech. People in India become intolerant when somebody poses an opposing view about the great people in Indian history but a majority of Indians frequently insult and defame Mahatma Gandhi, the person because of whom they are enjoying this freedom, one of the greatest Indians of all time, the person to whom, Nobel committee regrets not giving Nobel peace prize. People like me tolerate this defamation of Gandhi because that's what he taught me. Unfortunately he couldn't teach that to all of us.
This is what is the state of India today. Will it better tomorrow? I would be happy if it gets better but any logical thinking person would admit that it's going to get worse. The only way to change this is education. Well educated, civilised people won't make noise and sound pollution in order to celebrate.Education in India aims to be job oriented. We should not educate our children so that they become capable of feeding their family. We should educate them to be a better person. As population increases society doesn't care about making it's people humane, it cares about giving them jobs because thats what is necessary for the stability of the society. So Indian education system won't work in order to develop children into becoming better humans. There are very few chances that it will try to do both and succeed. Anyway let's hope for a better tomorrow where India would be more humane, tolerant and democratic!!
